Ricky Ponting, Australia

Ponting has scored four centuries and six fifties in World Cups at an average of 48.03, which is significantly higher than his overall average of 42.75 A veteran of four World Cups, he starts the 2011 event second on the overall run-list behind Sachin Tendulkar. He began in 1996 as a No.3, scoring a century against West Indies and 45 in the final loss in a small collection. Three years later he increased his tally (359) and his average (39.33), but the closest he went to a defining innings was 69 as Steve Waugh's junior partner in the great escape against South Africa at Leeds. That all changed in 2003 when he capped the tournament with a brutal century in the final. Four years later he dominated again, registering 539 runs at 67.37 on the way to another title. Unbelievably, his worst result at the tournament is runner-up in 1996.

Jimmy Kamande, Kenya

Jimmy Kamande has had a varied career, and best player in the team starting as a seamer, reinventing himself as an offspinner after being reported for having a suspect action, and now emerging as something of an allrounder, albeit one not really good enough to warrant a place on either discipline alone. Recently appointed captain, his biggest challenge will be bringing together a disparate and disillusioned side.
