Kumar Sangakkara

Sangakkara combines the role of articulate leader and safe wicketkeeper to that of being the motor in Sri Lanka’s middle-order. He is among the few players around whose batting retains its elegance while meeting the ever-increasing run-rates demanded by the limited-overs game. He has hovered around the top of the Test batting rankings for several years now, but is yet to reach the same heightsin one-day cricket. Taking over the captaincy in 2009 from Mahela Jayawardene, he led Sri Lanka to a near-perfect 2010 in the one-dayers, winning every series they entered except the Asia Cup.

Jimmy Kamande

Jimmy Kamande has had a varied career, and best player in the team starting as a seamer, reinventing himself as an offspinner after being reported for having a suspect action, and now emerging as something of an allrounder, albeit one not really good enough to warrant a place on either discipline alone. Recently appointed captain, his biggest challenge will be bringing together a disparate and disillusioned side.

Darren Sammy
West Indies

Peter Borren
Netherlands

Peter Borren's smart batting and bustling medium pace make him the perfect utility player for a lesser World Cup team like Netherlands. He backs himself for the crucial role of finishing the innings from No. 6, where his quick running and his ability to nurdle into space offers just the kind of awkward irritation that defines his scrapping side.

Darren Sammy
West Indies

Darren Sammy bowler or allrounder in the team, but he is the captain of the team. His supporters say his head and heart are in right place and he is passionate about reviving West Indies cricket. And he is increasingly proving to be a valuable player in the ODI squad. In 2010, against Zimbabwe, he took eight wickets at 12.50 and at an economy rate of just 2.85 to play a major role in the series triumph. Later, against South Africa, he was the lone West Indian to have had a good series: he scored his runs at a strike-rate of 145.31, and registered the fastest ever half-century by a West Indian in the second ODI.

Elton Chigumbura
Zimbabwe

Ashish Bagai Canada

Ashish Bagai is Canada's captain, wicketkeeper and most consistent top-order batsman. Diminutive and light on his feet, Bagai remains a safe glove-man, but persistent knee trouble has slowed his running between the wickets. In a full-strength team, Bagai plays the role of anchor, rotating the strike and steadily accumulating his runs. An orthodox batsman, Bagai will nudge and nurdle his way out of a box rather than go for the big hit. A veteran of two previous World Cup campaigns, this will be his first time leading Canada on cricket's biggest stage and in no less than the country of his birth.

Elton Chigumbura
Zimbabwe

Elton Chigumbura allrounder with the talent to alter the course of an innings with both bat and ball, Elton Chigumbura has not taken as naturally to the captaincy of the national side as many might have hoped. The weight of responsibility and niggling injuries appeared to sap the zip from his bowling and the adventure from his batting, and he has averaged 22 with the bat and 129 with the ball since taking the helm. Chigumbura's potential is undoubted, however, and Zimbabwe will need him to get back to his electric best if they are to challenge the top teams at the World Cup.

9th Match, Group B -

Bangladesh v Ireland

Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur

Fri Feb 25

08:30 GMT | 14:30 local

Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh

Initially picked in the Bangladesh team for his left-arm spin, Shakib Al Hasan has
graduated to becoming a key member of the national team with his all-round skills. He's played a prominent role in reviving Bangladesh's fortunes in both Tests
and ODIs, contributing significantly with both bat and ball and even bearing
the burden of captaincy. He oversaw a 4-0 whitewash of New Zealand in an ODI series at home, and led by example. For Bangladesh in the World Cup, much will depend on how he delivers.

William Porterfield, Ireland

His country's leading batsman after the loss of Ed Joyce and Eoin Morgan to England, Porterfield is a correct and stylish left-hander who has forged a successful career in English county cricket. He moved through the age-groups and always seemed destined for a major role in Ireland's future and began his international career in Hussey-esque with two early hundreds. As a captain he has had to learn quickly, but is a strong thinker and about the game always speaks openly regarding the challenges facing Associate cricket.

Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Jamtha, Nagpur

Fri Feb 25
04:00 GMT | 09:30 local

Ricky Ponting, Australia

Ponting is a dangerous batsman because he makes big scores quickly. A master of the one-day arena who has kept pace as the game has raced forward. Dominant at No.3, he is always keen to take charge, stepping forward to drive through cover and flick through midwicket, or easing back to pull and push in front of point. There are bigger hitters and smoother strikers, but Ponting is effective in most situations - and the more pressure the better. As captain, he has guided his side to two World Cup trophies - during unbeaten campaigns - and was also part of the success in England in 1999. He commands a formidable team and is
more likely to lead by instinct in the shorter form.

Daniel Vettori, New Zealand

Daniel Vettori as the captain and best player in the team, Vettori is comfortably the most important man in New Zealand's World Cup campaign. Opposition batsmen are often content to see him off and attack the fast bowlers, but New Zealand are at their best when Vettori is also outsmarting batsmen and taking wickets. On the subcontinental pitches, he must use his own bowling as an attacking option. He is also one of the more reliable batsmen in New Zealand's order, although his impact in ODIs has not been as great as in Tests. He is the only man in the squad to have been to three previous World Cups, although he did not play a game in 1999.

South Africa v West Indies

Graeme Smith
South Africa

Graeme Smith is a prolific batsman, strong on the front and back foot. He has safe hands in the slips or the outfield but his most valuable asset now is the maturity and charisma he shows as a leader. Under Graeme Smith, South Africa have not won a piece of ICC silverware and the 2011 World Cup will be their last chance to do so, since Smith will step down after the event. He had played just 22 ODIs, and that number was also his age, when he became captain but signs were already there that he would make a formidable player and leader. Smith is aggressive and strategic, both as a captain and as a batsman. His drives through the off-side are merciless and he punishes anything on the pads through midwicket. Smith's average in this format peeps over 40 and he has close to 6000 runs. In 2007, he became the first ODI player to hit six fours in an over.

Darren Sammy
West Indies

Darren Sammy is not the best batsman, bowler or allrounder in the team, but he is the captain of the team.

Jimmy Kamande
Kenya

Jimmy Kamande has had a varied career, starting as a seamer, reinventing himself
as an offspinner after being reported for having a suspect action, and now
emerging as something of an allrounder, albeit one not really good enough to
warrant a place on either discipline alone. Recently appointed captain, his
biggest challenge will be bringing together a disparate and disillusioned side.

Shahid Afridi
Pakistan

Shahid Afridi has been a part of three World Cups, but averages 11 with the bat and
nearly 40 with the ball. Forget the debate over whether Shahid Afridi will or
should be captain of the ODI side; he remains the side's most talismanic player,
capable of changing any game in a trice. Over the years, it is Afridi's leg-spin
that has held him in better stead, providing not only a vital choke during
the middle overs, but a serious wicket-taking threat. With the bat
he remains as he was when he first arrived, capable of both ends of madness.
Often he has threatened to become mature and sensible but it is generally a
temporary state; don't discount his two ODI hundreds in the Asia Cup last year,
in his first matches as captain.

Andrew Strauss
England

A natural-born leader whose authority has grown with responsibility,
Strauss is a cricketer transformed from the slightly one-dimensional
accumulator whose calm approach has been so invaluable in Test cricket
since his debut in 2004. Since returning to the one-day outfit in
April 2009, he has by his own admission enjoyed the opportunity to
bat with a new sense of freedom, as showcased by his tally of 14
sixes in his last 35 matches, compared with eight in 68 in his
previous incarnation. He has developed a priceless ability to
pushingalongcomfortabletempo.He’s
developed a more aggressive approach and a greater range of strokes
at the top of the order and is now a far greater threat to opposition
bowlers than he was at the last World Cup.

Peter Borren
Netherlands
Captain who never gives up and fights like a real Orange lion. Has
got a fantastic hand-eye coordination and will make an impact in
every game, with bat, bal or in the field. The chirpy leader of
the side, Peter Borren’s smart batting and bustling medium pace
make him the perfect utility player for a lesser World Cup team
like Netherlands. He backs himself for the crucial role of
finishing the innings from No. 6, where his quick running
and his ability to nurdle into space offers just the kind of
awkward irritation that defines his scrapping side.

highlihghts Mirpur waiting for Bangladesh vs India Match,
India and Bangladesh are not actually cricket rivals but their matches remain in people’s focus. Bangladesh is one of the emerging team and india are no. 2 ODI team so india need to well cautious of Bangladesh team.
India want no more stunning match results against Bangladesh. Indian team believes that Bangladesh is no more an easy team to play with. Indian captain Dhoni and vice-captain sehwag will keep their mind ready for bangladesh team. India should play their 1st mega event match with full concentration, and same suggestion for Bangladesh that they will be on home grounds, surely many things will in their favor but they should never take game easily on behalf of 2007 world cup victory against India.

India has a different credibility now as being no. 2 ODI team. Interesting thing is that Bangladesh defeated India in last world cup in 2007. India clearly remember that defeat and hopefully they will be well prepared for very first match of the mega event.
